History of Sonitrol WNY

Sonitrol Security Systems of Buffalo, Inc., now known as Sonitrol WNY, was founded in 1976 by David Jones and Paul Nickel, who met three years prior while working for Hilti Fastening Systems. Sonitrol of Buffalo was a start up, during the era of dedicated telephone line subscriber products. In the early Sonitrol years, the product line consisted solely of their flagship audio technology.

From 1976 through 1988 the company was headquartered at One Marine Midland Center (now HSBC Center), and transitioned to multiplex and digital communication while integrating central station managed access control. Additional core offerings were added to include fire and video systems. Sonitrol of Buffalo is now based at the corner of Elm and Broadway Streets in downtown Buffalo, and remains the area’s only UL and FM approved central monitoring station.

Growth has remained steady for over 40 years due to the addition of professional staff in sales, technical, monitoring, and administrative personnel. Sonitrol of Buffalo has received numerous national awards, is listed on the SDM Top 100, is active in the Sonitrol National Dealers Association, and is a long-standing member of the Sonitrol Achievers Group (top 15 independent Sonitrol Dealers)
